The planned installation of Acting Nairobi Governor who doubles as the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura deferred to Monday after Magistrate missed the 10 am to 2 pm swearing-in timeframe.
According to the Assumption of Office Committee Chairperson Justus Kathenge, the judge who was to preside over the ceremony arrived late.
“The Constitution stipulates that the exercise be conducted from 10 am-2 pm,” he said on Friday.
The Assumption of the Office of County Governor Committee was formed and gazetted today morning ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
The committee is chaired by Justus Kathenge who is the County Secretary.
He said the new date of the swearing-in ceremony will be announced at a later date.
An election to the office of county governor shall be held within sixty days after the speaker assumes the office of governor.
The Senate yesterday voted to uphold the impeachment of Sonko by the Nairobi County Assembly.
Sonko was impeached by the Nairobi Members of County Assembly on December 3 on grounds of gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office, gross misconduct and crimes under national law.
27 Senators voted to support the impeachment in all the four charges, 16 opposed and two abstained.
