A Police Corporal attached to Kayole Police Station was killed and his gun stolen by unknown gunmen believed to have trailed him following an earlier operation in the area.
The attackers stolen his Jericho Pistol serial number 45302342 loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition of 9mm caliber.
During the Sunday 2:30am incident, the Japheth Mwiti was leaving from a food kiosk in the company of lady companion identified as Catherine Wairimu next to Naivas Supermarket.
Mwiti was twice, to the head and stomach while Wairimu was shot on the right thigh twice.
“They were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital but Corporal Mwiti was transferred to Nairobi West Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.” Preliminary police report says.
While escaping from the scene, a few meters away, the trigger happy gunmen shot a motorist killed a physically challenged passenger sitting on the back seat in an attempted carjacking.
The disabled occupant was identified as Wemba Mbakhaya. The driver, Natembea Nandoli is admitted at Mama Lucy Hospital in critical condition.
He has bullets lodged in his chest and stomach.
Although the motive of the attack is yet to be established in what investigators suspect to be a premeditated execution plot, the slain officer was involved in police swoops in the area infested by thriving proscribed criminal gangs.
