The Independent Electoral Board (IEBC) has declared Feisal Bade⁹r the winner of Msambweni by-election.
Fiesal Badar, an independent candidate won with 15,251 votes beating ODM’s candidate Omar Boga who emerged second with 10,444 votes according to provisional results.
“I declare Feisal Abder as the winner and the elected MP for Msambweni Constituency,” said IEBC Returning Officer Yusuf Abubakar.
According to IEBC tally, Wiper’s Abdurahman Sheikh was third with 790 votes followed by Hamisi Mwakaonje Liganje(UGM) with 230 and Marere Wa Mwachai Mwarapayo(NVP) with 300.
The number of registered voters in the constituency are 69,003 with the by-election attracting 39.58 per cent turnout.
Fiesal Bader received support from Deputy President William Ruto’sTanga Tanga camp, while Boga was backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s handshake leaders.
The leaders who were present during the voting process included MP Mohamed Ali (Nyali), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Nelson Koech (Belgut), nominated senator Millicent Omanga and former Senators Omar Hassan (Mombasa) and Johnstone Muthama (Machakos).
Despite a low voter turnout, the exercise was marked by arrests of politicians such as Moses Muthama and Nelson Koech.
Voters bribery allegations, missing names in the voter register and pockets of violence as rival groups clashed was experienced yesterday during the by-election.
