Meru Governor who is also the Chair of Council of Governors Peter Munya has warned high influential people in Igembe South Sub County that their days are numbered for mistreating and intimidating the residents so that they can acquire their land.
Speaking at Kianda in Igembe South near the Meru-Tharaka Nithi border, Munya said Kenya is a democratic country with laws and those laws should be followed and those colluding with police to mistreat people and deny people their rights will face the full force of the law.
This comes after residents of the area decried on how influential people including a lawyer by the name Kirimi Mbogo are grabbing land in the area, using hired youths to intimidate people and even cause others to be arrested so that they can keep quiet.
He said that there is no one above the law and he will go to all the respective heads in Nairobi and tell them on the issue. He ordered his county officials to pay bond for those arrested and investigations be carried out to know the culprits.
