Leading mobile telephone services provider Safaricom has disclosed that it is working on some technological solutions that could bring to an end money transfer conmanship allegedly perpetrated by prisoners.
The company said that it was alarmed by increased cases of it customers being defrauded by criminal through the mobile money transfer service and it was in the process of getting a permanent solution.
“We are trying to find technical solutions to ensure we end crime related activities which have seen people being conned by criminals. This will not be an issue to worry about again,” said CEO Bob Collymore.
A cartel of fraudsters has been fleecing Kenyans through the mobile phone money transfer services.
At the same time the company has opened its Coast regional headquarters in Mombasa and a new retail shop in Malindi as it seek to bolster it customer services.
The new office according to Collymore, aims at enhancing business and strengthening the relationship with cusomers.
Situated at the Avenue Building in Nyali estate, the office will also be used to coordinate operations across the entire coast region landscape.
The coast regional office becomes the second after Nakuru headquarters which serves the Rift Valley region.
Collymore said with the opening of the offices, it targets to reach to over 2.2 million customers in the entire coastal region.
“We realized we ran a risk of getting distant from our customers and we could not run all the company’s business from Nairobi,” said Collymore shortly after officially opening the offices.
The Malindi retail shop which has already began operations becomes the sixth Safaricom shop at the coast and the 45th countrywide.
The CEO further added that each regional headquarter is intended to listen to the customers and advise the company on how to cater for their different needs.
Safaricom is also seeking to widen it customer base in the country by bringing on board care desks and dealer shops and agents to make it easy and convenient o serve its customers.
“Customers from different regions have different needs and the regional headquarters will listen and advise us on how to take care of each customer,” Collymore said during the opening of the offices.
Other regional offices are Nairobi East, Mt Kenya, Riftvalley and Nairobi West.
