Nairobi credit collector Bryan Yongo has applied for the arrest of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo for non-payment of Sh20million debt.
Jirongo is required to appear before the High Court’s Commercial Division on March 27 to explain why Yongo should not be allowed to attach and auction his property to recover the outstanding payment.
Yongo had sued the politician and secured a mutual agreement to have Sh10million paid by October 31, 2015 and the balance of Sh15million within 60 days. However, Jirongo paid the first installment and defaulted on the consent order sanctioned by the High Court’s Deputy Registrar.
Lawyer Tim Liko had formally written to Jirongo on August 3, 2015, demanding repayment of the loan advanced to him in October 2014 for a six-month period. The politician had undertaken to clear his indebtedness but reneged on his promise, according to court papers.
