The KNUT’s general secretary, Wilson Sossion, this morning addressed the press on the stand off between the union and the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
“As we begin the building bridges in this country, the initiative cannot be able to work if we don’t protect the democratic institutions in this country particularly labour movement.”Sossion said.
He said that, KNUT supports the building bridges initiative and as they do so, they have dispatched a letter to Simon Chelugui, cabinet secretary for Labour and Social Services, to rise up to the occasion and ensure that the dictatorial tendencies and hostile behaviors that they are seeing from the employers and salary remuneration commission are tempt.
“In this country, the development in education has not been without a strong voice of KNUT and in recent times our voice has not been entertained and it has not been sweet music to some quarters particularly TSC.”
He also said that TSC is attempting to put KNUT and it’s membership in a coalition cause with the government which they will never allow,
“… that a ‘strong’ KNUT is not good for government and that is why KNUT is currently locked out of enjoying agency fee for 2017- 2021 collective bargaining agreement while KUPPET was assisted by TSC in 2018 to access agency fee since the 17th of May 2018.”
He accuses TSC over trying to cripple the largest teachers union in the country by denying it’s dues the membership fee for all it’s members.
