The meteorological department has warned heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Kenya with Nairobi receiving relatively dry weather in its latest forecast.
In the seven-day forecast that runs from July 21-27, the weatherman said heavy rainfall above 70 mm is expected over some parts of Laikipia, Nyandarua, Baringo, Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Samburu and West Pokot Counties.
In the forecast released on Monday, met noted that moderate rainfall between 50-70 mm is expected over some parts of Turkana, Laikipia, Nakuru and Marakwet Counties.
Light rainfall of about 10-50 mm is expected over some parts of Kericho, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Nandi, Kericho, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyamira, Bpmet, Kisumu, Busia, Meru, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Turkana Counties.
But the rest parts of the counties especially for Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Narok, Makueni, Embu, Garissa, Tana River, Wajir, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Marsabit and Coastal Counties are expected to remain relatively dry during the same period.
In the forecast, Central, Nairobi and Parts of Eastern Regions will receive cool and cloudy conditions.
“Sunny intervals expected in the afternoon with few areas around Mt.Kenya and the Aberdares expected to receive showers,” the weatherman said.
Last week, department warned that strong winds at the Coast and Eastern may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages.
Very high waves may lower visibility, cause capsizing of boats and threaten the safety of those engaging in water sports and recreational activities.
In an alert, the department said the wind speed is expected to strengthen to more than 40 knots on Friday and reduce to 30 knots on Saturday.
