Opposition leader, Raila Odinga has left the country for South Africa to visit his daughter, Rosemary who is hospitalized there.
He left Nairobi shortly after 7am Friday morning aboard a Kenya Airways flight to Johannesburg.
His spokesman, Dennis Onyango said in a statement that Raila will be out of the country for slightly over a week.
The Opposition leader is also expected to travel to the USA from South Africa for a number of engagements.
“Raila left the country shortly after 7am, March 10 on a Kenya Airways flight to Johannesburg,” read Onyango’s statement.
Rosemary has been out of the country for over a week now, accompanied by her mother, Ida Odinga to seek further treatment.
She was flown to South Africa to ascertain her wellbeing, just about eight days after being admitted to Aga Khan hospital.
Raila’s visit to his daughter comes just a few days after he was treated to food poisoning at Karen Hospital and has since thanked Kenyans for ‘prayers, messages of sympathy, love and support on learning of my brief hospitalization this week’.
“Your prayers worked. I wish to assure everyone that I am fully recovered and ready to hit the road again. We thank God for that…It was a case of food poisoning, which is not the same thing as being poisoned. I know many Kenyans encounter this problem from time to time. It can cause quite a scare and indeed it did to me,” Raila said in a thank you note to Kenyans that was posted in the social media.
