Doctors in Machakos County yesterday dismissed an order by Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to resume work or face the sack.
Mutua had directed the doctors working within his county to go back to their work stations by yesterday morning but the directive fell on deaf ears.
According to a statement sent to newsrooms, the Maendeleo Chap Chap leader hinted that his government had began arrangements for sourcing doctors from Tanzania, Uganda, Egypt and India to ease suffering of the patients.
“I have today given doctors employed by Machakos County up to tomorrow morning to report to work or I will fire them Chap Chap” read the statement by governor Mutua.
In the statement, Mutua told doctors that they bore curses from the patients who had died as a result of the three months doctors’ national strike. But, Doctors union downplayed Mutua’s order saying that they would not bore to any pressure and they were firm in the industrial action with their counterparts nationaly.
KMPDU Chairman in the lower Eastern Dr Havey Mbithi said they would not be cowed saying that they were longing for the axe. “ Go ahead and fire us, we are learnt than you, last time you threatened to sack us and we signed the document to exit and nothing happened, we are tired of threats” said Dr Mbithi ina telephone interview.
