Detectives attached to Kenya Police Unit (Jkia) are holding two men of Somali origin arrested separately for smoking while aboard an aircraft.
Arabow Musa Hassan and Mohamed Jama Mohamed flew from South Africa aboard Kenya Airways flight KQ 763 and KQ 783 respectively.
Arabow was arrested at 10pm on Tuesday while Jama was seized at 11pm. “They will face charges for the offence of smoking while on board an aircraft contrary to Section 59 (1) (a) and 59 (2) of the Civil Aviation Act,” A senior officer said.
The stringent enforcement of the law in all airports under Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) comes at a time the government has stepped up war against drugs targeting drug barons, points of entry and exit.
Last month, Anti-Narcotics Unit (UNA) intercepted nine kilograms of Heroin worth Sh27.8million and arrested Lilian Jennifer Akoth aged 37 years at Jkia.
In the past, Kenya’s points of entry and exit including Jkia have been used as transit point for organised crime including drugs and ivory.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Mombasa Kilindini Port are investigating the mysterious loss of bitumen worth Sh3.4million.
According to police investigations, the bitumen was in a container IRSU 266895 truck registration number KBW 398L trailer ZE 9615.
Police investigations show the consignment was owned by China Civil engineering but it was stolen by unknown people while on transit. The driver of the truck identified as Elijah Kamau is still at large.
