Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel was yesterday grilled for hours over ongoing probe of Sosian ranch director Tristan Voorspuy killing.

The legislator was picked by detectives attached to Special Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) next to Parliament Buildings and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

“The Member of Parliament is shedding light on some issues. It is a part of the investigation process,” a senior officer said. And shortly after his arrest, the MP released a statement accusing the government of unfairly targeting pastoralists.

In the statement, Lempurkel wanted the government to take responsibility for all Kenyans who were killed even as he told the National Cohesion and Integration Cohesion (NCIC) chairperson Francis ole Kaparo to adhere to his reconciliatory role and “not be a catalyst to the fighting”.

The vocal MP was whisked away just before he got to Parliament to address a press conference on insecurity in Laikipia, two days after the rancher was killed.
