There was drama at the Kwale Law Courts today after a car-jacking suspect went berserk, stripped and smeared himself with faeces accusing police of stealing his money and phone.
Operations at the Court were paralysed for a while as pleas to the accused Herman Mkalla Wambua to dress up fell on deaf ears.
The furious suspect clutched his cloths insisting that he will appear before the court naked.
Wambua and his co-accused Fredrick Omondi are charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle, a Mitsubishi registration number KCE175G.
The two were arrested at Taveta border town,Taita Taveta County on Sunday while in possession of the vehicle following a tip off from members of the public.
They had arrived in court in a Kinango Police Station vehicle, only for them to alight with Wambua naked and smeared with faeces, whose foul smell forced all those present to cover their noses.
The bizarre incident which caught court officials and members of the public by surprise left them in shock and disbelief.
It took the intervention of Kwale Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai who asked the police to convince the suspect to put on his clothes.
“We cannot allow him inside the court naked as it amounts to indecency. At least convince him to cover up himself so that we can proceed with the case,” Mr. Mutai said.
Wambua finally agreed to dress up, but not until after Inspector Stephen Muli, who was escorting the two suspects to the court persuaded him to do so.
Asked why he stripped, he told the Court it was because police had allegedly taken away his phone and money, besides refusing him to talk to his family.
“They have denied me my rights to talk
