Tea farmers in Kericho County want the Kericho County administration to come up with a Bill for disbursement and the use of Sh71 million from Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Authority (AFFA) by tea factories in the county.
About two months ago, AFFA disbursed the money to the county so as to be shared by tea factories. The money is a refund of Advolerum levy imposed on teas. Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) run factories are the beneficiaries of the money.
Today, interim Rift Valley chairman of Kenya Union of Small Scale Tea Owners (Kussto) Joel Chepkwony called on the county administration to develop a Bill and hand over to the County Assembly so as to be deliberated upon if pass it will enact legislation on the disbursement and the use of the money.
“We want the money to be disbursed to factories without any further delay. It is not right to sit on the money yet there a number of farmers concerns that need to be addressed,” said Chepkwony in Kericho town.
