An armed man was today shot dead outside parklands Police Station in Nairobi while his accomplice escaped with gunshot wounds.
The duo had been trailed from Mlango Kubwa along Juja Road after they committed armed robbery. Police recovered a homemade gun, a bunch of keys and other crude weapons suspected to commit house break ins.
The escapee suspect was later traced to makindu Nursing Home in Makueni County where he was seeking medical assistance to remove bullet lodge in his body.
“One suspect was fatally injured but his accomplice managed to escape with bullet wounds. He has since been arrested and he will be arraigned in court,” Parklands Officer Commanding Station Richard Omenke said.
Police have largely been able to contain souring crime levels in the area previously known for rampant armed robberies targeting banks and private offices.
Last month, three armed criminals were shot dead in a fierce shootout with police in a foiled robbery attempt along 1st Parklands Avenue in Nairobi.
A pistol loaded with eight bullets of 9mm caliber, a Somali sword, several identity cards and the vehicle were recovered. Previously, former area OCS Job Njiru was shot and seriously injured in Parklands by gunmen riding on motorcycles. A businessman was also injured.
The officers was shot and badly injured while responding to a distress call by a businessman who was also robbed of USD26,000 (Sh2.2million) and three laptops.
