A congregation attending a mass at Asumbi Catholic Parish in Homa Bay County on Sunday got stunned after finding a body of a man who allegedly hanged himself in the church compound.
The body of Fredrick Ogolla, 33, was found by worshipers who kept vigil during mass for another deceased Nun, Scholastica Anyango who served in the Parish.
Father Alloys Okumu, a priest who headed the mass confirmed that Ogolla was a tractor driver in an institution headed by the church. “We were shocked when we realised that the driver had committed suicide as our mass was going on,” Okumu said.
Fr Okumu said that Ogolla who stayed within the institution did not leave behind suicide note for explanation of why he killed himself. “We also questioned ourselves why he decided to commit the act when mass for a nun was ongoing. He has been serving the church without complaint,” he said.
Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County Police boss John Omusanga said they had moved to the scene and taken the deceased’s body. “We took the deceased body to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem as we continue with investigations,” Omusanga said.
