A legislature has opposed the sendoff package being agitated by Members of Parliament and County Assembly saying that the country faces more important and urgent matters that require money currently.
Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire has said that the demands are in order but it is infortunate that it comes at a time when there are more pressing matters like the doctors’ and lecturers’ strikes that require the government to fund.
The legislature said that it is legally correct for the MPs to make such demands but Kenyans are suffering and therefore priorities should be put right in order to save this country.
She said that the billions demanded by the politicians are too much and could play a big part in settling the stand off being witnessed in the country currently and they should therefore move and accept things as they are.
She reiterated that with current leaders being the first lot under devolution, there is need for them to sacrifice the few months remaining to the end of their terms so as to allow policies to set in where the next leaders will see their full five year term come to an end.
She added that there was need for the current leaders to suffer the fate of being in office for less than five years and thefore they should accept to go home peacefully.
