Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has told the opposition to keep off the multibillion Itare Dam Project whose plans were started over three decades ago.
Speaking at Saino Forest during a drive to rehabilitate Sondu Miriu River catchment areas, Keter said the project will address the witnessed water shortage within Nakuru County and some parts of the neighbouring Kericho County.
Keter noted that he will not be cowed to face the opposition in the implementation of the project adding that opposition leader Raila Odinga while in government supported the eviction of people to save Mau Forest.
He added that leaders from other counties had no moral authority to interfere with the project as it is for the benefit of its residents and will have no adverse effects to counties neighbouring Nakuru.
He dismissed claims that the project will affect water supply to regions depending on water from the catchment area saying it was widely thought of and planned for with all effects taken into consideration.
While drumming support for Jubilee, Keter urged the opposition to carry out its role of keeping the government in check and stop opposing development projects being initiated by the government of the day.
