The death toll from the Dusit terror attack has risen to 21 after six more bodies were retrieved from the scene while a police officer succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Inspector General of police Joseph Boinett on Wednesday night said 28 people had been injured following the attack and admitted to various hospitals.
Earlier on it President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing the nation said 14 people had lost their lives following the attack.
“It is unfortunate that we have picked six other bodies at the scene while one officer succumbed to the injuries,” he said.
The IG said among the dead are 16 Kenyans, one Briton, one American and three others of African descent that are yet to be identified.
“As a result, our final tally indicates that five terrorists were eliminated by our security apparatus,” Boinett said.
He added that two people suspected to have facilitated the attackers have been arrested and are helping police with investigations.
“We however ask the media and all Kenyans to be prudent in their reporting so that they do not indulge in speculative reporting that might jeopardize the investigation process,” he said.
This comes as Kenya Red Cross reported a reduction in the number of missing persons.
The Society said those initially reported as missing were 94 but by 3pm, 44 had been closed positively..
Later in the day, the society said out of the 50 remainng, only 19 cases were pending while the rest had been positively identified.

Meanwhile Deputy President William Ruto said the facilities treating the victims have offered to foot the bills of those without medical insurance.
