Principal Secretary for the State department of special programmes Josephte Mukobe has assured Kenyans who have been hit by drought that the government is committed to fight famine in the affected areas.
Mukobe said the government has already started distributing relief food to the affected families to ensure they are rescued from the biting hunger.
“The national government is very committed to fight the biting famine that has affect ed many people especially those from the arid areas. We have already started distributing relief foods and water to the affected families all over the country,” said Mukobe.
The PS asked Kenyans to embrace modern methods of farming to boost food production in the country.
Mukobe while distributing relief food from the national government to Emuhaya and Luanda residents particularly the old, widows and orphans affected by the biting famine said people must apply the modern technology in farming to mitigate on the food scarcity.
She said although the government is committed with the provision of food and water to people affected by the drought in the country but Kenyans should work hard to fight famine.
“I urge my people to embrace modern methods of farming to boost food production in the country. The government is committed to provide relief food to Kenyans affected by the biting famine in the country,” said Mukobe.
She alsoi asked the county governments to join hands with the national government and ensure those people affected by the famine are catered for.
Mukobe also challenged the agricultural officers employed in the country to help the farmers by teaching them the new technology of farming.
Mukobe accompanied by county security officers distributed rice, maize,cooking oil and beans to affected people at Ilungu. Elukongo, Esibila and Luanda.
