Police recovered 400 bags of coffee believed to have been stolen and arrested four suspects in Juja, Kiambu County.
The produce valued at Sh 16 million was found in a rented house in Murera area of Juja sub-county on Monday evening.
Kiambu county police commander Njagi Nyange said police got a tip-off from members of the public and stormed the one-roomed rental house where they arrested the four who were offloading the commodity from a lorry.
The coffee packed in 50-kilogram bags is believed to have been stolen elsewhere and transported to the house that neighbors said was rented out over the weekend.
Nyange said police were yet to get the owner of the A B quality coffee or the person who had rented the house. A vehicle found at the premises was impounded by police and taken to the Juja police station where the four are being held.
The police boss appealed to the management of coffee factories in Githunguri and Gatundu growing zones to get in touch with the nearest police stations.
Neighbors said house was rented last Saturday but no one was aware aware of the dubious activity in store.
