Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter said 150 MPs from across the political divide have confirmed attending the informal sitting.
Accompanied by Tindi Muale (Butere), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Godfrey Osotsi (nominated), the legislatures said they will do everything as people’s representatives to ensure the government’s decision to tax fuel products is rescinded.
This comes even after two lawmakers wrote to both National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale and his minority counterpart to reconvene the House to discuss the matter which has generated public outrage.
MPs last week on Thursday proceeded to a month-long recess.
“We are in a financial crisis. The government might not even pay salaries for teachers and other civil servants. We have borrowed so much, about Sh 5 Trillion, but the thieves have been looting almost half,” said Keter.
“We want the executive to tell us which are the collaterals we committed to taking up the loans, ” added Amisi.
Muale and Osotsi called on the government to reconsider its decision for the sake of millions of ordinary Kenyans
MPs will on Tuesday hold a Kamukunji to discuss the way forward over the fuel tax which they claimed is hurting ordinary Kenyans a day after its implementation.
