Tension is high at Migingo Island of Migori County after the Ugandan government dispatched several security officers to the island over the weekend.
The heavily armed police officers have since taken control of the island, harassing both the locals and the Kenyan security officers.
The island has for the past week witnessed mass exodus as many Kenyans are fleeing the place that they have considered as hostile and inhabitable.
According to the Migori police commander, David Kirui, they have already beefed up security on the island to restore peace and harmony that has been on the island.
The police boss added they that they had a dialogue with the Ugandan security team and they had agreed on certain rules which should not be flouted.
Following the tension, the Migori county governor Okoth Obado has called on the government to protect Kenyans living on the island saying it’s their right.
