Over 37,000 litres of illicit brew have been destroyed in Murang’a in a period of 100 days.
Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata has said the brews have been confiscated and destroyed through a coordinated operation by security agents.
Elungata who was speaking at his office in Murang’a on Thursday said the government had set aside 100 days to crack down on betting machines and illicit brews.
Over 300 betting machines, 7,000 litres of Chang’aa and 30,000 litres of Kang’ara have been destroyed.
Another 7,000 kilograms of bhang were impounded in the period.
The county commissioner said hundreds of suspects have been arrested and arraigned in court.
“We have seen suspects slapped with fines amounting to Sh100,000 after being convicted which encourages our fight and discourages potential suspects,” Elungata noted.
