Two Machakos County Government Chief Officers have quit their plum jobs to venture into politics and will be contesting for parliamentary seats.
Justus Kala, chief officer for special programs in the office of the Governor will be battling for Machakos town parliamentary seat on a wiper ticket.
Kala, has uncharacteristically broken ranks with Maendeleo Chap Chap, his former Boss’ party and chosen to ride on Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper party.
The former ally of Dr. Alfred Mutua however maintains he is only exercising his democratic right, and that he has a close relation with his former boss.
“I have no issues with him ( Mutua) , we have discussed it and agreed that I go my way, and if we meet in future, we will work together again, but in the mean time we have to part ways” said Kala.
Mr Kala earlier served as a chief officer in the Department of Labour and ICT and that of Education, Gender and Social Services.
He will be squaring it off with the incumbent Dr Victor Munyaka of Jubilee party and former KNUT national treasurer Urbanus Mutisya who narrowly lost to Munyaka in 2013 on a wiper party ticket.
Another chief officer, Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai, will be flying the Maendeleo Chap Chap flag in Kitui East, the home turf of Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and NARC’s Charity Ngilu.
Mbai served as a chief officer Executive support services in the office of the Governor. He also served in the same position in the department of decentralized units, urban centers and Municipalities and that of Agriculture, livestock and Fisheries Development from the year 2013.
Speaking to his constituents in Zombe town yesterday during a home coming rally, Mbai said he was motivated to leave his lucrative job to serve his constituents and foster real development and leadership.
“I have decided to leave my good job while understanding that I have children to feed so as to help my people to the Promised Land” said Mbai.
Mbai is a former administration police officer who worked closely with Governor Alfred Mutua when he served as the Government spokesman under Mwai Kibaki’s government.
He has been one of the most powerful figures in Governor Mutua’s Government, and had the Governor’s ear all the time.
He will face off with incumbent Marcus Muluvi, former Wiper party director of elections and a close ally of Kalonzo Musyoka.
