President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Peter Muthoka as the new chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Muthoka, a career corporate manager, replaces former President Mwai Kibaki and will serve for a period of five years with effect from December 8.
The appointment was made in a gazette notice dated December 14.
A chancellor is the honorary head and symbol of authority in the university whose main function is to confer degrees and grant diplomas and other awards of the university.
Muthoka has a long standing experience in corporate management and entrepreneurship in both the private and public sector spanning several years.
He retired from Kenya Commercial Bank in May 2012 after serving for eight years as a director and as the group Chair.
Muthoka is also the chair of the Old Mutual Asset Managers, Old Mutual Investments Services, Bel Air Management Ltd, the Advocates Plaza Ltd and Faulu Microfinance Bank.
