A 24 year old man yesterday succumbed to injuries after a rooftop of a house he was sitting on caved in at Karatina Stadium during Jubilee Party meeting that was being addressed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased David Maina was among over 17 other Jubilee supporters who were perched on the rooftop of the ill-fated brick building just to have a clear view of the podium where the President was sitting.
The incidence happened shortly after the President and the Deputy arrived and the speeches by political leaders who were in their company at the meeting attended by thousands of supporters.
Some 17 others were also injured where 14 were treated with minor injuries and discharged while four are still nursing serious wounds at Consolata Mission hospital, Mathari and Tumutumu Mission hospital.
The President on Monday condoled with the bereaved and wished quick recovery to those nursing wounds and as well regretted the unfortunate incidence.
In his message that was delivered on his behalf by Mps Rigathi Gachagua, Mathira, Ngunjiri Wambugu, Nyeri town and Mwangi Gichuhi, Tetu, the President pledged to settle full hospital bills and the burial expense.
“The President has committed himself to settle all costs to be incurred and instructed us to brief him on what goes on daily basis,”Rigathi said.
