Association of Kenya Medical Laboratory Scientific Officers (AKMLSO) has urged the government to allocate more resources in the fight against life threatening diseases such as cholera and food poisoning in the country.

Speaking at an Eldoret hotel during the 24th scientific conference on Wednesday, the association faulted the government over its failure to focus on surveillance on health to reduce cholera and food poisoning related death.

The association claimed the national government has abdicated its role and let the people to grapple with emerging diseases that can easily be contained if proper measures can be put in place.

The association executive chairperson Michael Abala observed that unlike in the past when health bodies were working closely in prevention rather than cure, the ministry of health has continued to sideline laboratories even as patients continue to loose their lives due to emerging ailments.
