A private hospital in Ugunja town has been closed by the government due to poor hygiene and sanitary standards.
Home Ground Medical centre, situated on the Busia -Kisumu highway, was ordered to stop operations following an inspection by the public health officers who decried the sanitary conditions.
Ugunja public health officer Ogaja Ogaja said the decision was prompted by the health facility’s management failure to adhere to the standards as advised by his office.
Ogaja said the female and labour wards at the hospital were in a pathetic situation, with blood stains all over the place.
“Injection rooms and the kitchen are infested with insects and their food is not hygienically preserved,” said the public health officer who spoke to the media in Ugunja yesterday.
Ogaja said the food handlers at the health facility further required to be subjected for medical check up to guarantee the safety of the patients they serve.
