The Government has distributed 1million tablets to learners in public primary schools, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang has said.
He said the devices will greatly improve delivery of the curriculum, under the Digital Learning Programme (DLP).
Dr. Kipsang made the remarks when he commissioned Digital Learning Programme for Uasin Gishu County at Chesegem Primary school today.
He disclosed that some 95,000 teachers had been trained on how to facilitate teaching and learning on digital platform, saying DLP was among the strategies that government had adopted to improve the quality of education children get in basic education institutions.
He said introduction of early literacy programme in class one and two had enabled learners to access instructional materials.
“Pupil to textbook ratio in lower primary schools was 1:1 in English and Kiswahili,” Dr. Kipsang said.
He said the introduction of ICT in education had made it possible for electricity connectivity of 95% of public primary schools and households across the country.
