Nurses in the highest job group could earn between Sh 655,877 and Sh 874, 500 while nurses in the lowest job group earn between Sh 17,610 and Sh 32,010 if the highly contested Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is signed and implemented.
While salary for the highest job group U will remain unchanged at between Sh 655,877 and 874, 500 inclusive of 40 per cent remunerative allowances, in job groups A to L nurses seconded from the national government will have their salaries increased to match the current salaries of nurses seconded from the defunct local governments.
That means the lowest earning nurse in job group A will earn Sh 17,610 while highest earning nurse in job group L will earn Sh 69,790.
Nurses seconded from the defunct local governments in job group M and are earning currently Sh 75, 580 will still receive the same amount as the maximum pay for this group while the minimum pay for this job group has been harmonized to Sh 54,067.
In job groups N to T, the salaries have been increased for both nurses seconded from the national government and nurses seconded from the defunct local governments where lowest earning nurse from group N will earn Sh 62,647 while highest earning nurse from job group T will earn Sh 302, 980 from the current Sh 110, 615.
According to a pull out for the expected pay for nursing officers in Kenya on the signing and registration of the harmonized CBA, the new proposed harmonized salaries shows that the improved terms shall only apply to the devolved staff.
On the other hand, extraneous allowance will only be received by National government nurses in job groups G to T. Nurses in urban areas and in job groups G, H and J will receive Sh 20,000 in the new proposed harmonized allowance while groups K,L,M will receive Sh 25,000 and groups N and P will receive Sh 30,000. Job groups Q and R will receive Sh 35,000 and job groups S and T to receive Sh 40,000.
However, nurses in rural areas from the same job groups are to receive Sh 5,000 more than their counterparts in urban areas in the new proposed allowance.
In terms of housing allowances, those from national government earn between Sh 6750 and 80,000 monthly while those from the defunct local authorities get between Sh17, 000 and Sh 68,000. The proposed CBA seeks to harmonize the same to between Sh17, 000 and Sh80, 000.
Nurses from the national government also get uniform allowance flat rate of Sh10, 000 per year while those from defunct local authorities get nothing. The nurses new CBA seeks to harmonize it to Sh50, 000 for all Job Groups except job group U per year.
The nurses in the National Government also get commuter allowance of between Sh4, 000 and Sh20, 000 while their counterparts from defunct local authorities get Sh3, 000 flat rates monthly. The nurses’ new CBA seeks to harmonize it to Sh15, 000 and Sh25, 000.
The CBA was aimed at harmonizing nurses’ salaries, providing better healthcare equipment in hospitals and hiring more nurses, among other objectives.
