Residents of Suba South Constituency today held demonstrations to protest against the announcement of area MP and ODM national chairman John Mbadi as the winner in the recent party primaries.
The locals threatened to vote for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta if ODM fails to downturn the victory of Mbadi. Mbadi was declared the winner for the constituency parliamentary seat in the Monday’s Homa Bay county ODM nominations.
The Suba South MP garnered12, 365 votes against his closest challenger, former Raila Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s aide Caroli Omondi who had 11, 597 votes.
Caroli has since disputed the results, arguing that Mbadi inflated figures from some polling stations in his strongholds to ensure he won the nomination. Omondi insisted that the he is the genuine winner of the nomination.
Today, hundreds of Suba residents staged demonstrations at Magunga and Sindo trading centers to protest against Mbadi’s victory. Led by elder Hillary Otieno, the residents accused ODM party of violating their constitutional right by deterring Omondi the victory he genuinely acquired.
