Voting went on smoothly in Kiambu County and only a few incidents were reported in the twelve constituencies.
In Gatundu a group of youths allied to area Mp Moses Kuria caused a stir at the Gatundu Sub county offices when they attempted to storm to eject election officials they claimed were holding ballot papers.
Police had to fire in the air to disperse the charged youths in the process delaying voting in the constituency.
However peace was restored and voting kicked off at around 11am.
In Limuru a police officer was intercepted with four ballot papers at Githungucu polling station in Ndeiya. He was arrested by his colleagues who were alerted by election officials.
And two vehicles belonging to a gubernatorial seat aspirant were intercepted at Nderu area in Kikuyu constituency and the occupants’ arrested after they were found dishing out cash to voters.
There were reports that more people holding ballot papers which were allegedly stolen from a polling station at Kerwa trading centre.
Limuru Member of Parliament John Kiragu addressing the media after casting his vote at the Kamirithu polytechnic condemned the incident and urged police intensify investigations and make sure the said officer is charged in court.
Voting in Lari, Kiambaa, Githunguri, Kabete and Kiambu constituencies went on without hitches with thousands of voters turning up.
Unlike the aborted primaries last Friday, yesterday polling stations were opened early with voting materials having arrived at the stations early enough ready for distribution.
