A son-in-law to Mombasa women representative Mishi Mboko was today charged with the murder of a security guard.
Tariq Twalib, 25, appeared before high court judge Dora Chepkwony after he underwent a mental assessment test which indicated that he was fit to stand trial.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering Peter Mnyika on March 23, at Khoja flats in Majengo area Mombasa County.
The charge sheet indicated that Twalib together with others not before court murdered the deceased by beating him to death.
He was released on a bond of Sh 100,000 and one similar surety, after the Director of Public Prosecutions informed the court that the state was not opposed to the suspects being released on bond since the accused was not at flight risk.
Twalib is married to Mboko’s first daughter Hafidha Wakesho.
According to prosecution Twalib, is alleged to have hired goons from Majengo and Old town area who accosted the deceased on claims that he had broken into his house and stolen Sh 1500 and his wife’s wallet.
The case was set for hearing on June16 this year.
