Tension remained high at Ng’elecha Valley in Baringo County after charred bodies of two policemen who went missing while in action on April 14 were with found yesterday.
The officers ,one drawn from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the other National Police Reservist went missing after a fierce fight between bandits and police on operation in the gazetted disturbed area.
Confirming the incident, Baringo County Police Coordinator Peter Ndungu said the bodies were partially burnt following the fight that led to the officers going missing.
He said the operation was halted since the police officers were involved in the search of the missing officers.
“We were forced to halt the operation for a while so that we can locate our colleagues who went missing during the operation and it is unfortunate we found them no more,” noted Ndungu.
This comes a week after unknown number of bandits ambushed police officers injuring two at Chemorongion area in Arabal Baringo South.
The police officers, a GSU and ASTU shot and seriously injured by bandits alleged from Pokot community ambushed the police camp and started firing to the officers.
According to the Rift Valley regional coordinator Wanyama Musiambo, he cannot ascertain on how the officer are injured so long as they are on operations.
“I cannot judge who is injured or not but so long as the operation continues to flash out bandits and return sanity in the areas affected,” said Musiambo.
Some few days the bandits also injured one more officer in a fresh attack which left also many bandits injured.
The Akwichatis attack which left the officer injured was also a success one as they managed to recover one gun.
According to Baringo police commander Peter Ndung’u, the operation has been successful so far and they have managed to kill a number of bandits.
“As far as the operation continues we have managed to eliminate some of the culprits and we hope after the operation will come to end we will have returned sanity in the region,” said Ndungu
They were also able to recovered the firearm with 17 rounds of ammunition, Ndungu noting that they aim to recover more illegally owned firearms in the hands of the bandits.
This comes as more than 2,000 of them were displaced in the operation that took place in some parts of Tiaty fearing for their lives.
