The Ministry of Education has said it has made a milestone in implementing the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) even as it embarks on digitizing learning programmes in primary schools.
Cabinet Secretary for Education Fred Matiang’i said the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has already launched online content for classes 1, 2, and 3, which was available upon registration with the DLP devices.
“The DLP devices are pre-loaded with content which includes interactive digital content for classes 1 and 2 in five subjects namely; Kiswahili, English, Mathematics and Science,” he said.
The CS was addressing a stakeholders forum organized by the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) at in Mombasa.
He noted that by November 2016, the total number of devices installed with digital learning content stood at 67,068, while the total number of teacher digital devices installed to date was 1,772. Over 80,980 teachers had been trained to deliver digital learning to pupils.
He additionally said that over 10,697 schools have been assessed and found ready to implement the digital literacy programme by the end of July this year.
