Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has urged public service vehicle(PSV) operators to strictly adhere to the Ministry of Health protocols aimed to contain the spread of the virus.
Speaking at ACK memorial school in Gatanga during the opening of new classroom complex, Macharia said the the threat of Covid-19 is still alive warning PSV operators against carry passengers at full capacity saying social distancing must be observed.
“We are not yet out of the threat posed by Covid-19 and thus we appeal to the public service vehicles to honour guidelines given by the Ministry of Health,” he said.
He added that the ministry with consultation with that of health will relax the restrictions when the contraction rate is below 2.5 per cent.
He noted that only Madaraka train and airplanes have a lee way to carry at full capacity since railway stations and airports have adhered strictly to the protective measures by ensuring passengers undergo screening before they are allowed to board.
Mwangi wa Iria, Murang’a Governor who accompanied Macharia urged Kenyans to be extra vigilant saying Covid-19 is still a major concern.
The Governor noted that despite the President lifting the cessation on movement which was imposed in five counties, it does not mean that the rate of Covid-19 in the Country has gone down.
Meanwhile the governor revealed that the county administration in partnership with local churches will embark on a programme to trace and help people who have been affected by mental health.
