Four Kenyans have been killed in South Sudan after being ambushed by unknown gunmen over the weekend.
The four were among six other aid workers who were working for GREDO, local NGO funded by UNICEF to build youth centres in the Eastern part of the country.
According to a dispatch from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they were traveling from Juba to Pibor town.
“Efforts are currently underway by South Sudan security agents in conjunction with officials from GREDO and UNICEF to recover the bodies of the victims,” said a statement signed by Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.
The CS pointed out that the ministry is actively engaged with all the stakeholders to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
She said that the Kenyan Embassy in Juba and the Embassy of South Sudan in Nairobi are in constant contact with both the governments regarding the unfortunate incident and will facilitate coordinated repatriation of the bodies of the deceased for burial.
