A secondary school teacher suspected to be the culprit of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination irregularities in Nyanza region has been arrested in Homa Bay County.
Calvin Magolo, a teacher at Nyagwethe Secondary School in Suba sub-county, was arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officials in Mbita town yesteday evening.
“Magolo is the alleged chief supplier of examination materials in Southern Nyanza region comprising Homa Bay, Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties,” Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan said.
It is reported that Magolo has been working through an illegal network of people who leak exam materials and, upon receiving them, he forwards to his accomplices in the region.
Lilan said they arrested the teacher after taking adequate time to probe and establish how he has been operating to circulate the examination materials.
The county commissioner added that the suspect was first taken to Mbita Police Station before being transferred to Homa Bay Police Station where he is being held for interrogation after which he will be arraigned in court.
However, it still remains unclear if the exam materials he has been circulating are genuine or fake.
Lilan warned teachers in the region against compromising their integrity to perpetrate examination irregularities.
