Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is next Monday required to appear before Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement on remarks he made about Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
This follows a move by DCI boss George Kinoti on Tuesday evening to summon the ex-governor directing him to appear at the DCI headquarters, along Kiambu Road.
Sonko has been directed to appear in person at the Head of Serious Crimes Unit next Monday at 8am.
The former Nairobi Governor will be required to shed light on claims that alongside PS Kibicho, he participated in a crime in 2017.
Kibicho on Monday presented himself at the DCI headquarters over the allegations made by Sonko that he was in 2017 involved in planning chaos to paint the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in bad light.
The claims were made as sort of a self-confession by Sonko during a rally in Dagoretti South constituency on Sunday.
According to the ousted Nairobi city boss, himself alongside PS Kibicho and persons he termed as the ‘Deep State’ organized for the torching of vehicles so as to taint the ODM’s public image.
After appearing before the DCI, Kibicho held a press conference at his office where he said he has had enough of Sonko’s attempts to assassinate his character adding that he will pursue the case to its legal and logical conclusion.
Sonko, however, in a rejoinder late Monday evening told the PS to “bring it on” saying he has all the necessary evidence to back up his claims.
