Kisii County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa has ordered chiefs and clan elders to start tracing several children who have not reported to schools since they were reopened on Monday last week.
The Commissioner said parents will not be allowed to give excuses on why their children have not gone to school, stressing the government wants all children to be in school to continue learning after a ten month break owing to the outbreak of Covid 19.
The Commissioner said parents and guardians who fail to take their children to school risk arrest and prosecution.
“We want all children to report to schools. The government will not condone parents and guardians who keep their children at home,” Jaldesa said.
He said government officers have been inspecting schools to assess the turnout and compliance with the Covid 19 protocols, adding the progress is impressive and urged school Heads to sensitize learners to embrace it to curb the spread of Covid 19.
“School Heads have installed water points; children wash hands and wear masks to curb the spread of the pandemic,” jaldesa said, adding 95 percent of children have turned up in schools.
