The resilience of the African continent to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic is a matter deserving research and documentation.

There is no doubt the numbers of those who have succumbed to the disease in developed countries compared to Africa has demonstrated amazing resilience.

For example, by January 8 Kenya had 1,703 confirmed deaths while UK, with a near similar population, had recorded over 82,600 deaths. There has been over 358,000 deaths in the US, Germany has recorded over 36, 500 deaths and this is the case in many Western countries.

Researchers in Africa need to wake up. As we know, the funders of research in Africa are foreign and such a research will not be a priority.

Africa needs to invest in research. Our researchers need to investigate and let the world know the reason behind our resilience.

If the reverse was true, the world would be issuing travel restrictions to COVID-19 ravaged Africa, and manufacturing theories to explain how “African” the pandemic was.
