Deputy President William Ruto has today warned a section of public servants against being used by some politicians to misuse their power.
Speaking in Nakuru during the burial of Bahati MP Kimani Nginjiri’s mother, Ruto alleged that some criminal investigations being carried out by relevant authorities in the country are politically motivated and driven.
“The abuse of criminal investigation targeting people because of their tribe or political affiliation is the wrong thing to do, but it is worse if criminal investigations are used to incite ethnic hate and tribalism in our nation,” he stated.
He said that some of the people had hugely benefited from the politics of hatred, and ethnicity when the country was not stable and have realised that there is nothing left for them because of peace across the country.
He said that some of the actions from the investigation and prosecution departments have proved that they are targeting some people because of their political affiliation.
He asked public officers charged with the responsibility of protecting our country not to use those offices for the wrong things.
“…you’re taking our country backwards, you will not succeed, and we will pray against you.”
The DP also aired his views on the BBI bill saying those with divergent views must not be shut out of the process.
He said there must not be winners and losers in the process and that a win-win situation is possible to achieve.
The DP urged Kenyans to be alert of a section of BBI proponents using the process to plant seeds of hatred.
“We must not have winners and losers, we can fashion a win-win. We want things that that everybody will agree on and if possible, people not to be pushed because they have different views. (Tunataka mambo watu wote wakubaliane, na inawezekana, tusiskume mtu kwa sababu ako na maoni tofauti), that’s not the way to go forward. There are people in this BBI who want to scatter people, let us look for somewhere where we can walk together. (Kuna watu katika hii mambo ya BBI wanatafuta sana vile ya kugawanyisha watu, tutafute mahali ya sisi sote kutembea pamoja),” he said.
