Six senior officers in Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s administration were today on the spot after they were grilled by the Assembly over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for agricultural extension services.
The six ward administrators, who appeared before the Agriculture Committee, were at pains to explain how the money was utilized after emerged that it had been diverted to other things like fueling their personal vehicles and buying refreshments.
Committee members were shocked to find that the monies allocated Gilgil, Rongai, Njoro, Kuresoi South, Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West sub-counties were used to buy refreshments during Governor Mbugua’s Mashinani Outreach Programme.
The alleged misappropriation has left veterinary, fisheries and agricultural services grounded with officers unable to carry out their work effectively.
“As an assembly we passed a budget with an allocation for agricultural extension services and not for what you did. For that reason we seek to know who authorized you to veer off our course,” said Waithaka.
