Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal investigations have gunned down two robbery with violence suspects.
The two suspects both ex-Kamiti Maximum Prison convicts had been captured on CCTV footage numerous times in active violent robberies within Meru County.
The DCI said they were shot dead on Sunday night in a shootout that saw the detectives recover a patched submachine gun they’ve been using.
“The confrontation ensued after the team spotted a suspicious motorcycle with concealed number plates at Makutano area in Meru, where on challenging the rider to stop the two pillion passengers alighted and opened fire with the submachine gun disobeying orders to surrender,” the DCI said.
The detectives fired back in retaliation, where the two suspects were fatally injured with the rider escaping but is being pursued.
