The Ministry of Defence (MOD) on Thursday, 23rd January 2020, held a handover ceremony between the outgoing Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) ambassador Raychelle Omamo and the incoming CS ambassador Dr. Monica Juma at the Defence headquarters, Nairobi.
During the ceremony, ambassador Omamo briefed the incoming CS Dr. Monica Juma on various issues to enable her settle in her new role as the CS Defence. “This briefing will assist you push the Ministry further and add your own variety of leadership. It will also help you understand the challenges, prospects and opportunities in this ministry,” ambassador Raychelle Omamo said.
Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe bid farewell to the outgoing CS saying that KDF had learnt a lot from her. “The work you have done for this Ministry will be forever remembered,” he added.
General Mwathethe welcomed ambassador Dr. Monica Juma saying that she was not new to the Ministry. “We have worked with you before as a Permanent Secretary and now you are back as a CS,” said the CDF.
CS Dr. Monica Juma expressed her delight as she took over from CS Omamo. “I look forward to working with all of you and to perform well in what we have been called to do for this country,” she stated.
Present during the event were the Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Doctor Ibrahim Mohammed, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Walter Raria, Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel & Logistics Major General Fatuma Ahmed, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Operations Doctrine and Training Major General Jonah Mwangi, Director Public Communications Bogita Ongeri, Senior MOD officials, Senior Officers and Departmental Heads.
