The Nairobi River clean-up team has yet again retrieved another body from river.
This brings to 18 the number of bodies recovered from the river since last year.
The body of the middle-aged man was recovered at Kware area adjacent to Ngong River, a tributary of the Nairobi River.
The man is believed to have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in the river.
Ng’arisha Jiji Embakasi South sub-county team leader Abdi Kware Guyo, who was part of the team, said: “We were doing our normal daily routine of cleaning the river and one of our members noticed the body which was submerged in water.”
The matter was reported at the nearby New Kware Police Station under Police Occurrence Book number 10/19/11/2019/ at 1030hrs.
The team has now appealed to police to take action and end frequent cases of bodies being retrieved from Nairobi River and it’s tributaries.
The bodies retrieved from the river so far include 13 infants and five adults.
“We are being affected day and night. Governor Mike Sonko has always been setting records straight. We need police to move swiftly and come up with full report on frequent dumping of bodies in our rivers,” added Abdi.
In his message to the Nairobi River clean-up team, Governor Sonko congratulated the team for carrying on with their duties diligently despite the challenges they are facing.
“It’s sad that the recovery of bodies in our rivers is now common with us. However, I’m encouraged by the good work being done by the Ng’arisha Jiji team. We must restore Nairobi River to it’s former state but I’m appealing to Nairobians to support us by protecting our rivers,” stated Sonko after receiving news of the recovered body.
Mid this year, Sonko asked police chiefs in Nairobi and county officials to investigate the dumping of bodies at the expansive river and bring to book those behind the heinous acts.
Last Tuesday in Korogocho, Team Komb Green Solutions, which is part of the Ng’arisha Jiji team, recovered the body of an infant from the river at KA village at the bridge connecting Dandora and Korogocho.
