A crisis has griped teachers training colleges countrywide as over half of students who sat for 2016 national examination in some colleges failed to attain the pass mark.
Out of 360 candidates who sat for the 2016 national exams at Moi Baringo Teachers College, a total of 130 of them got referrals meaning they were unfit to qualify for the job market in the teaching sector.
The college’s senior principal Rev Richard Nduati noted that the mass failures which was replicated in teachers colleges countrywide has never happened before in Kenya.
The institutions are however in the dark as to what may have caused the mass failure in the examinations which means a smaller number of teachers will be released into the job market.
The new development which has affected both private and public teachers colleges means that the institutions will have to cope with increased student population as the former students are likely to repeat their second year training.
