The speakers of Parliament today formally presented presidential awards to MPs and parliamentary staff.
Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Ekwee Ethuro (Senate) gave the awards to four senators, six members of the national assembly, and controller of budget Agnes Odhiambo, a commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commissioner (PSC) and a staff of the budget office.
The mps, Odhiambo and commissioner Abdulahi Ali were awarded with chief of burning sphere first class while the director Parliamentary budget office Phyllis Makau was awarded with an Order of Golden Warrior (OGW).
The MPs who received the awards include Moses Cheboi (Kuresoi North), John Mbadi (Suba), Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Thomas Mwadeghu(Wundanyi) , Isack Mwaura(nominated), David , Pkosing (Pokot south), senators Abdirahman Ali Hassan (Wajir) Daniel Karaba(Kirinyaga), Bony Khalwale (Kakamega) and Janet Ong’era (nominated).
The names were submitted to the President by the parliamentary committee on national honours as nominees and the President vetted the names and then rewarded them last year on Jamhuri Day.
Speaking after giving the awards Muturi and Ethuro said in the selection exercise they do not look at the political affiliation of the members but the service they have rendered.
