The body of the missing Dandora activist Caroline Mwatha has been found at the City Mortuary
She was reported missing on Wednesday last week and police have been working around the clock to trace her.
Police sources indicate the body was taken to the morgue on February 7, a day after she disappeared.
This, however, contradicts earlier reports as the family said it had visited the mortuary but did not find the body.
The family was notified and positively identified the body on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, police dispelled speculations that a badly mutilated body found in Sagana was that of Mwatha.
A police source, who sought anonymity, said they contacted the family and confirmed the remains are not of their daughter.
The officer said they responded after members of the public called a police station after seeing the body of the woman by the roadside on Tuesday morning.
“However we are not taking any chances, we are extending the search to where every lead will send us,” the officer said.
Mwatha was a senior official at Dandora Community Social Justice Centre.
